Flight Instructor Course – FI(A)

The FI(A) Course is designed to prepare commercial pilots to teach others how to fly. Through both ground and flight instruction, candidates develop the theoretical, pedagogical and practical skills necessary to train future EASA-certified pilots on single-engine aircraft. It’s an essential step for those seeking to expand their aviation career or build hours as professional instructors.

The Flight Instructor (FI-A) course focuses on training CPL holders to the required level of proficiency to obtain an EASA Flight Instructor Rating on Single Engine Piston Aircraft (SEP-L). The course combines in-depth theory on instructional methods with practical teaching in the classroom and in flight. You’ll gain experience teaching under supervision while mastering how to structure and deliver both ground and flight lessons.

To enroll in the FI(A) course, candidates must already hold a commercial pilot license and meet specific criteria to ensure instructional aptitude.

Valid EASA CPL(A) or higher
At least 200 total flight hours
Pass a Pre-Entry Flight Test with our Head of Training
Valid EASA Class 1 Medical Certificate
Good English proficiency (ICAO level 4 or higher)

The FI(A) course includes theoretical and practical instruction with a focus on teaching methodologies. Candidates will be evaluated not only on their flying ability, but also on their communication, clarity, and effectiveness as instructors.

Theory:
• Teaching and learning techniques (FCL.920)
• Ground instruction methodology
• Simulator lesson planning and debriefing
• Supervised ground teaching practice
Fly:
• In-air demonstrations and supervised instruction
• Exercises covering all phases of ab-initio training
• Emergency procedures and abnormal scenarios
• Progress checks and instructor skill test
